About 100 vehicles were involved in three pile-ups on a highway in western Belgium on Tuesday, leaving at least one person dead and 54 injured.
With temperatures close to freezing, thermal blankets were handed out to people still trapped in their cars.
In 1996, a similar pile-up nearby left 10 people dead.
